Elizabeth Kott has a lot going on. Girl wears a whole bunch of hats (fedoras?): She’s the founder Closet Rich, a site that brings her L.A. cohorts’ fantastic closet castoffs to the rest of us, she’s the chief creative advisor for the cool-kid T-shirt co. Cotton Citizen, and, in…
I am constantly amazed at how people haven’t yet learned that the payments industry is really hard to get into. It was okay for first-wave companies like PayPal to be surprised by it, but anyone who does their due diligence before starting a payments startup should know everyone – literally everyone, including regulators and the government – is going to be working against you. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen and go start a photosharing startup.
Payment startups face a far more adversarial environment, including utter and total hostility. It was okay for PayPal to whine about this (though they didn’t), because it wasn’t known. But now it’s known. If you run a payments startup, you are fighting against thugs, actual criminals – both real ones and government ones. It is not a normal business. It is like trying to start a business in an actual warzone. Complaining about this is just whining. There is no actual solution other than to win. Anything else is, in fact, just whining.

At the end of 2000, Pandora began to run out of money. Westergren went from pitch meeting to pitch meeting, up and down Sand Hill Road to no avail. With bleak prospects, the core group of about 50 Pandora team members ended up working for almost two and a half years without any salary…Westergren and the founding team began deferring their salaries long before anyone else did—and he even paid employees’ salaries with his credit card when times got tough. At one point, Westergren had maxed out 11 credit cards.
At its press event today, Facebook announced that while its Home launcher tool for Android does not currently contain advertisements, that it will eventually, and Cover Feed itself – the core of Home according to the company – will sport ads.
I can’t think of a worse company, to be honest. They’re fucking pitiful. Every month for 3 years now I have gone to Verizon FiOS’ website and checked my address to see if my street is wired yet. 3 years and nothing yet. Please, Verizon FiOS, help me! You could literally show up at my apartment, slap my dog in the face, take a shit in my sink and rip out a clump of my hair and I still wouldn’t hate you as much as I hate Time Warner cable.
Even when they’re on the field, players aren’t safe from the butt dialer…Players try to seek refuge during the off-season, but the butt dialer finds them…Players have even tried escaping to other countries, but the butt dialer has no regard for international borders.
